You Make The Call

There was an advertisement during football games a few years ago, titled, "you make the call". Basically, you were shown a play and asked if it was illegal, if not what penalty would be called. This blog will be a variation of that theme.

During the 2001 NFL season, Carolina was suffering through a 1-15 year.
A guy in section 552, decided the crowd could make a difference and tried to fire everyone up when the opposing team reached third down. Hence the tee shirt on this blog.

Just a little side note: When an offense reaches third down, normally one of two things will occur. 1) They make enough yardage and reach a first down and continue the drive or 2) The defense holds them and they are forced to punt (give up the ball and end the drive).

We face the same situation on our life journey. When we reach our "third down" will we be able to continue the drive and eventually reach the end zone to score or will the defense hold and thus we blow another scoring opportunity?

Sometimes when we are faced with those 1-15 seasons and every down seems like third down, an amazing thing can happen. Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves, we look deep down inside and realize character is being formed.

As a side note: just two short seasons after that 1-15 season the Carolina Panthers went on to play against New England in the most exciting SuperBowl ever!

Life will have challenges (third downs) , sometimes we will reach the marker and make a first down, sometimes even a touchdown. Other times we will fail and have to punt away the ball. Just remember a football game is played over a course of 4 quarters and it's not over until the time on the clock has expired in the fourth quarter. Life is also played out over a course of time. So, just because we don't reach the goal on the first offensive drive, does not mean the game is over.
