I don't believe in it

Yesterday, I passed by one of my customers and he asked me how was my Christmas. I responded simply that it went well, then I asked how was his. His response totally stunned me. He shook his head and replied, "I don't believe in it."

We were very shorthanded at work and I was in a huge hurry, so I let the comment go and didn't press it. If you know me, then you already know my mind didn't let that statement go.

I've looked at it from different angles trying to figure out just WHAT he didn't believe in. Maybe it was commercialized Christmas, Christ birth, Santa, or the entire concept of the holiday season.
This guy is a veteran of the Korean Conflict (I hate that term it was a WAR), and lives alone with his dog. I'm thinking maybe, like many single people , that he was just not feeling very merry without family to celebrate with.

I have thought much about that statement over the past 36 hours or so.
I'm going to have to investigate this just to see what could cause such a statement.
